Privacy policy

MOQUTAH is a free adhan app provided by ChooseSpeed Ltd in the United Kingdom. It is built to work with as little data as possible: no accounts, no ads, no tracking or analytics tools.

What stays on your phone

• Your location is used on the phone only, to work out the prayer times and the qibla. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
• Your settings, any times you enter yourself and your adhkar counts are kept on your phone alone.

What the app asks our server for

To show the mosque directory, timetables and the app's look, the app requests this public data from api.moqutah.com. These requests carry nothing about you or where you are. As with any website, the server sees IP addresses; we do not store them in our database.

Sending a mosque timetable

If you choose to send a timetable, we receive a PDF file with the mosque's name and town only, not your name or location. The file is checked automatically and then reviewed by hand. The original file is deleted 30 days after the review decision; we keep its fingerprint (a hash) so rejected files are not sent again. To prevent abuse we count sends per address for a short time and then forget them, and logs keep the address only in a one-way hashed form.

Contact us messages

If you write to us through "Contact us", we receive only the text of your message and whether it was sent from the app or the site. We do not ask for your name, your email or anything about your device, and we do not store your address in our database: to prevent abuse we count messages per address for a short time and then forget them. So do not write anything you do not want us to read.

Teaching videos

The prayer-teaching videos are on YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube, and nothing is sent to Google, until you press a video. In the app a video opens in YouTube itself or in your browser; on the site it plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com). Once you press one, watching it is covered by the privacy policies of YouTube and Google.

Permissions

• Location: optional, for the times and the qibla. You can choose your town instead.
• Notifications, alarms and showing on the lock screen: so the adhan plays on time.
• Background work: to refresh the adhan schedule each day.

Sharing

We do not sell or share any data. The server is hosted by Hostinger, which processes data only on our behalf.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you may ask what data we hold about you and ask us to delete it. As we do not know who our users are, most of what concerns you is on your phone and is removed when you delete the app.
